We are in Peterborough today. We stayed in Hastings yesterday and got the laundry done, bought a few groceries and made sure the fish were NOT biting. We left the wall at Healy Falls early that morning and got to the lower wall at Hastings pretty early, before they even opened. The schedule is shortened up for a few more weeks. So, Monday thru Thursday the open at 10am and close at 4pm. And you need to get to the last lock at least 30 min before they close. Then, Friday thru Sunday the hours are 9-5. It has been no problem for us since we are traveling pretty short days and we are in no big hurry.
Tuesday we will tour the lift lock here at Peterborough. They have a nice visitor center with models of several other locks, and a film documenting the construction.
This is a snapshot of the chart as we passed thru the slot in the underwater railroad that crosses Rice Lake.
Seems like all of the locks look like a park. We really like staying on the lock walls, if they had power and water on the wall we would need nothing more.
