Today we traveled from Frankfort to Ludington, about 50 miles. The lake was a bit choppy but not too bad. The waves were coming from the starboard bow but not so much that there was a harsh ride like we get when we have to plow directly into the waves. We left just before 7am and made it to Ludington just before noon. We have been running a bit faster than our usual low and slow procedure. Our philosophy on the big open water segments is to get there before the wind and waves have a chance to kick up.
The steamship ferry boat the Badger runs from Ludington to Manitowoc. We watched it come in to port. It was built in 1952 and is the only coal fired steamship in operation in the USA.
Here we are on the wall in the harbor at Ludington.
